BIOGRAPHY OF LATE PA. B.A OKE
Who Slept In The Lord On July 28th, 2020
Benjamen Adeniyi Oke was born at Ola near ejigbo Osun State on June 6th
1916, as the first child of his parents. He had seven siblings, He started his
education at Baptist Day School, Ola in 1938, when he was 12 years of age.
This should not be a suprise because in those days must touch ear before
he or she could be admitted. He got transferred to Baptist Day School,
Osupa Ogbomoso, Oyo State where he completed his elementary
education and obtained his standard six certificate. After obtaining his
standard six certificate, he returned to Ola to teach at alma matta for four
years. He however left the service after he gained admssion ti Baptist
College, Iwo in 1952 where he was traned as a teacher. Unfortunately, he
had lost his father ealier in 1947, that incident force his mother to take
care of him and his siblings. He married his wife heart rob Miss Akanni of
Oloya compound. Bode Ikoyi/Sekoni, a nurse at the then Baptist Hospital,
now Bowen Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso in may 1959.
In 1962 Oke won a scholarship to further his study abroad. He
gained admssion to the Geaorgetown College, Kentucky, USA for a degree
in education. He later proceed to the University of Kentucky where he
obtained Master's Degree in education. He returned to Nigeria in 1967.
He emplyed as a teacher by th western regional government
and taught in many schools. Of importance are Baptist Modern School,
Sabo Ogbomoso and Anglican Grammer School which he pioneered.
It is remarkable that he retired at the Anglican Grammer
School Ogbomoso in 1984 after 17 years in service, this is in addition to
his years as a primary school teacher at Ola, Osun State in the 50s. Pa Oke
is stinct at Anglican Grammer School Ogbomoso was impactfull because
of the innovation he introduced to the school. His handiwork includes
most of the class rooms, School Hall now named Benjamen Adeniyi Oke
Hall Science laboratory and so on and so forth. Aside physicall
development, Papa Oke sets a standard for the school academically, he
instilled discipline in his students, he debared truancy among the staff and
students, improved sporting activities in the school and Christian
devotion in the school and made possession of Songs of Praise a must for
his students.
After his retirement in engage in poutry farming which was his
hobby even when he was in service. In the year 2000, he returned abroad
to Long Beach, USA, with his wife to join his children and grandchildren.
He died in the USA on 28th June 2020 at a ripe age of 94. He was a
Christian and a baptist denomination wise. As a matter ofd fact, he
worship at Oja Oba Baptist church Ijeru Ogbomoso, where he served as
organist for years. Chief BA Oke lived an exemplary and life of impact. Hie
is indelible in the sand of time. He would be remembered for his strict
adherence to his ideas, principles, and for his devotion to his family.
